| Kawkawa Lake
Park is a former provincial park set in a forest setting in the Cascade Mountains
northeast of Hope, offering recreational opportunities for swimming, boating,
picnicking and fishing.
The word kawkawa is a poetic Native term that means 'much calling of loons.' Repeat
it often enough and you'll get the picture. Kawkawa
Lake has many species of fish, but is best known for its large kokanee (land-locked
salmon), which can exceed 3 lbs in size.
Facilities at the park include a large day-use picnic area with toilets, a swimming
beach, grass play area, park benches, picnic tables, and a boat launch with a
small dock. Many
visitors to the park journey here as part of a visit to the Coquihalla
Canyon Provincial Park and the Othello-Quintette Railway Tunnels, part of
the Trans Canada Trail in the Coquihalla Canyon.
Kawkawa Lake Park is located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) northeast of the community of
Hope, accessed via the Kawkawa Lake Road. |
